Sedalia Police employed their K-9 unit last Thursday during a traffic stop at the S-curve on the east side of town.

According to a report, officers conducted a traffic stop at 12th and Broadway on a vehicle for improper lane use at 12:03 a.m. Dec. 20.

A computer check of the driver, 34-year-old David R. Batzel of Pettis County, revealed he was driving while suspended. The K-9 unit was then called to the scene to conduct a drug sniff. After the dog alerted, a subsequent search allegedly revealed methamphetamine in the vehicle.

In addition to Batzel, two occupants were also charged with possession of meth, including 32-year-old Shane Emon Hatami of Sedalia, and 33-year-old Melinda S. Lamb of Pettis County.

All three were taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail on a 24-hour hold, pending the formal filing of charges.
