What can I say?  I give up on this weather.  What do you do when you get up on the first weekend of turkey season and it's 35 degrees outside?  Well, you put on more clothes, grab your swamp boots and maybe a boat to get to that field those thunder chickens have been strutting in.  It's going to be fun.

Anyways, this week is going to be a tough one.  I lost my mother two years ago last Tuesday.  It's been tough, I miss her a lot and think about her often.  She had a lot to do with my love for the outdoors.  She got me started fishing when I was about six years old.  She continued to fish and help with our events until her passing.  A lot of my friends remember her cutting worms for the kids, getting rods untangled and loving to watch all of the kids.  I can feel her there when we do our events.  Mom, I know you're watching.

They're catching crappie every day and it looks like it's going to be great next week.  This Saturday is the State Fair Lions Club Crappie tournament.  It's a great tournament with usually over 100 boats, so I hope you get a chance to check it out.

We took our buddy Eric from LaMonte turkey hunting last Monday.  We had a great hunt, but no luck.  Kind of a downer, but a bad day of hunting is better than a good day at work.  You can check out the pics on Facebook.  The Wounded Warriors are coming back for a turkey hunt this Saturday before we go to the Mid-Mo Outlaws game that night, so come out to the game, find me and meet some of the men that gave and continue to give us freedom to do what we do and live in the land of the free and home of the brave.

Also, plan on getting those kids outside on May 11, the Saturday before Mother's Day.  My mom wouldn't want it any other way.  Bring the kids out for Fish for a Cure, we'll have a Relay for Life team serving lunch for donations, and you can register Mom for a special drawing.  Bring worms and your own pole if you'd like, but we'll have hot dogs for bait and rods from the Department of Conservation.  Also, Rusty Toad Archery will be there with the apple shoot again and the Mid-Mo Outlaws will be dropping by, so plan to have a great day at the park with Mom, Dad and the kids while helping a Relay for Life team.

Well, until next week, good luck during hunting season.  Send us those turkey pics and remember to be safe.  Oh yeah, let me know when those mushrooms are up.  My wife loves them and I can't ever find them.  So help me please: happy wife, happy life.
