It's October, which means bonfires, pumpkin patches, and of course, Halloween. More importantly, this is the season of scary attractions and horror films. Here is my top 10 list of "must-see" horror/thriller movies before Halloween:

.) The Shining—A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future.

.) Insidious— A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

.) Psycho— A Phoenix secretary steals $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother.

.) Cry Wolf— Eight unsuspecting high school seniors at a posh boarding school, who delight themselves on playing games of lies, come face-to-face with terror and learn that nobody believes a liar - even when they're telling the truth.

.) The Exorcism of Emily Rose— A lawyer takes on a negligent homicide case involving a priest who performed an exorcism on a young girl.

.) Silence of the Lambs— A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims.

.) The Exorcist— When the devil possesses a teenage girl, her only hope is an exorcism.

.) The Ring— A young journalist must investigate a mysterious videotape which seems to cause the death of anyone in a week of viewing it.

.) Carrie— A young, abused and timid 17-year-old girl discovers she has telekinesis, and gets pushed to the limit on the night of her school's prom by a humiliating prank.

.) Signs— A family living on a farm finds mysterious crop circles in their fields which suggests something more frightening to come.
