Four area school districts recently were recognized with a grant of $1,500 from KMOS-TV in recognition of the development of innovative education programs that motivate and encourage students to strive for excellence.

School districts receiving the grants were Morgan County R-2 School District, Versailles, for its Tiger Cookie Company project, Warrensburg R-6 School District for its Parents as Teachers Program, Kingsville R-1 School District for the development and growth of its Kingsville Tiger Band as part of the district’s fine arts curriculum; and Columbia Public Schools for its Reading Recovery program.

For the second straight year and the fourth time in seven years, the University of Central Missouri has finished third in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings. This is the fifth time in the last seven years that UCM has finished in the top three in the standings and the 15th time in the last 16 years that the Mules and Jennies are in the top 20.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports - seven women's and seven men's.

Registration is open for the 2015 Doug Karleskint Mules Basketball Individual Camp, which will is being held June 15-17 at the UCM Multipurpose Building. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and is open to kids ages 7-18.  Cost of the camp is $150 per person and includes lunch each day and a camp t-shirt.  For more information or to register for the camp go to the UCM website, click on athletics, and then click on the Mules Basketball Camps link or contact assistant coach Nate Johnson at 660-543-4757.
