Authorities are reporting that a University of Central Missouri (UCM) student was one of two individuals who were killed when a red Chevrolet Camaro plummeted from an interstate overpass in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Star reported that the 21-year-old female student and a 22-year-old man from Overland Park, Kansas, died at the scene of the late Saturday night crash along Interstate 435. The crash occurred when the male driver apparently lost control around 11:30 p.m., wrecked off the overpass and crashed down onto Gregory Boulevard.

Two other students from UCM were also injured, one critically and the other seriously. The names of the victims will be available pending notification of relatives.

University President Chuck Ambrose stressed that the school is a "close-knit community." Ambrose said the family and friends of the victims and the two students who survived would be "in our thoughts and prayers." He further stated that counseling services will be available for those impacted by the accident.
