Virginia Louise Hughes, 93, of Marshall, passed away Thursday evening, May 29, 2014, at the Living Center in Marshall.

She was born January 26, 1921, in Pilot Grove, daughter of Eddie Alonzo and Minnie Lee Davis Busker. On May 2, 1939, in Sedalia, she married Joseph Ray "Mike" Hughes, who preceded her in death on January 9, 2001.

Mrs. Hughes worked as a cook for the Marshall School District. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and was a good cook.

Surviving are a son, Michael Hughes (Karen), of Warrensburg; two daughters, Virginia "Ginny" Templeton (Wayne), of Katy, TX, and Patricia "Patty" Phillips (Roy), of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Carrigan, of Michigan, and Doris Register, of Georgia; and a brother, Fred Busker, of Warrensburg.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ward Busker; a sister, Elaine Barklage; and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Chaplain Ray Haught officiating.
Casket bearers will be Bobby Barklage, Ted Barklage, Mark Barklage, Rodney Dickerson, George Hughes and Paul Busker.
Honorary bearers will be grandchildren: Cindy Blair, Tammy Johnson, Dave Barber, Brian Swearngin, Brad Swearngin, Kevin Price, Shelby Price, Bobby Estes, Carman Hensley and Danielle Gray.

Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Heckart Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice or to the special care unit at the Living Center for activities.
