A free workshop on white-tail deer management will be offered by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) from 12:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, on the University of Central Missouri campus in Warrensburg, Mo. The workshop is open to anyone interested in deer management, but it will be especially helpful to property owners or managers interested in improving habitat and understanding trends in the state’s white-tail deer population.

Attendees “will come away with a better understanding of deer biology and behavior,” said Paul Lowry, an MDC private land conservationist. “We will also talk about deer diseases and how they relate to management.”

Topics will also include how programs available to landowners who want to improve timber stands or grasslands to boost deer, such as cost share programs for habitat improvements.

Although the workshop is free, advance registration is required so MDC staff can have adequate printed materials and refreshments available. To register, call the MDC Kansas City Regional Office at 816-622-0900.

The workshop will be held in the Laura J. Nahm Auditorium in the W.C. Morris Science Building, which is located on campus near South and Holden Streets. Nahm Auditorium is on the north end of the W.C. Morris Science Building and is accessed via doors on the east side.  Ample parking is available north of the auditorium.  A campus map is available here.
