William "Bill" Dale Hampy, 91, of Cole Camp, died Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp.  He was born on December 16, 1922, in Ionia, a son of Arthur and Lucille (Siegel) Hampy.

As a child, he was baptized in the Ionia Methodist Church.  He graduated from Cole Camp High School in 1941.  On May 16, 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a military policeman guarding the Pentagon.  He was honorably discharged on October 19, 1946.

On June 27, 1946, in Cole Camp, he was united in marriage to Arline Margaret Kroenke. This union was blessed with the gift of three children:  Robert, Karen, and Brenda.

Bill spent his entire adult life farming, milking cows, and raising turkeys.  In 1993, he retired and moved to Cole Camp, where he found his calling at the senior center.  He served on the board, assisted in cleanup, and led the daily prayers.  He was well loved and taken care of by his senior center "family".

After moving to Cole Camp, he met and married Vi Eckhoff Schuman on May 18, 1997, and joined the United Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed following the Cole Camp Bluebirds basketball and volleyball games.  He was a familiar face at his first home church, selling tickets for the Ionia Turkey supper and greeting people for worship in his later years. It was not unusual to see him riding his vintage bicycle to pick up his mail.
