Winter Storm Warning In Effect for Pettis County Throughout the Weekend

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued a Winter Storm Warning for freezing rain and snow, which is in effect from midnight tonight to noon Sunday for portions of Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri, including Pettis County. The winter storm watch is no longer in effect.

Freezing rain will develop overnight tonight and slowly spread north during the day on Saturday, overspreading the entire region. By Saturday evening the freezing rain is expected to change over to snow. The snow is expected to taper off and end by mid to late Sunday morning.

Ice accumulations of one tenth to a third of an inch may reach a Kansas City to Moberly, Mo. on Saturday. Snow amounts of 5 to 7 inches will be possible along a line from Kansas City to Kirksville, Mo. with lower amounts generally around 2 to 4 inches elsewhere.

Roadways are expected to become very slick and snow packed resulting in hazardous road conditions and possible downed tree limbs.

A winter storm warning for freezing rain and snow means that periods of freezing rain and snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
