Winter Storm Watch Issued for Pettis County, 6″-10″ of Snowfall Expected This Weekend

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Saturday evening (Mar. 23) through Sunday evening for portions of eastern Kansas and Western Missouri, including Pettis County.

Confidence is increasing that a winter storm will hit the area on Saturday night and continue through Sunday.  The storm has the potential to bring snow accumulations of 6-10”, possibly more.  Although the exact track of the storm is uncertain, it appears that the heaviest snowfall will fall along and south of the I-70 Corridor.

“I have looked at different models and at different National Weather Service Offices in Springfield and St Louis, they all are predicting a wet heavy snow of 6 to 10 inches,” said Dave Clipper of the Pettis County Emergency Management Agency.  “Two weeks ago, a wet heavy snow created wide spread power outages, and I would suggest that you prepare for that again.  I am not predicting we will have widespread power outages again, we just need to prepare for it.”

Snow is expected to accumulate on the roads beginning Saturday night, causing roads to become snowpacked and slick, creating hazardous road conditions.
