A former Independence city employee alleges in a lawsuit that she was subjected to several incidents of sexual harassment and assault.

The woman says in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court that most of the events involved Police Chief Brad Halsey.

The Kansas City Star reports the woman resigned as an analyst for the police department because of the treatment, which also involved two other department employees.

She said the incidents involving Halsey included being grabbed and receiving offensive texts.

City spokeswoman Meg Lewis Thursday an investigation is under way but the findings will not be made public. The police department didn't immediately respond to a request of comment.

The woman is seeking $500,000 and punitive damages.
