Yvonne Elizabeth Hoffman "Betty" Sammons, 88, of Baton Rouge, LA, formerly of Sedalia, died Thursday, March 6, 2014.

She was born July 9, 1925, in New Orleans, a daughter of the late John Cottraux and Yvonne Fernandez Hoffman. On May 28, 1951, in New Orleans, she married Burl Raymond Sammons, who preceded her in death on January 31, 2014.

She attended parochial school in Lafayette, LA, and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, LA. She moved back to New Orleans after graduating college and worked as a state welfare visitor. She later worked for the telephone company as a service representative. After she married Burl and moved to Sedalia, she continued working for the telephone company from which she retired in 1961.

While living in Sedalia she was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, volunteered for Boonslick Library and served on the board of Melita Day Nursery. Betty did what was good and helpful for people in the community.

Betty's sister, Phyllis Hoffman Wise, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two siblings, Cynthia Hoffman Couturier, of New Orleans, LA, and John C. Hoffman, Jr., of Fort Collins, CO, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family takes this opportunity to offer special thanks to Betty's and Burl's devoted and loving caregiver, Nicole Thomas, for her years of wonderful and compassionate service.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Graveside service will be 10 am, Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Crown Hill Cemetery with Father Mark Miller officiating.

Local arrangements are under the direction of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
