With the COVID-19 pandemic, we were eating more at home when it all started a few month ago but in the past weeks it seems as if more and more of us are getting back out to local restaurants in the area. That's a good thing for all of us.

Since we're somewhat back into the swing of things again, we're seeing it more and more. On the go from sunup to sundown. We're cut short on time more and more. Fast choices, fast food. It's convenient and it satisfies the kids, but is it safe for them?

According to the Science of Eating, those quick meals aren't always the best choice and can lead to health and weight problems down the road.

Here's a list of the worst foods for kids according to homemaking.com:

  • Chicken Nuggets - (from fast food restaurants and the frozen variety) They're full of preservatives, sugar, and other unhealthy fillers.
  • Soda - full of caffeine and sugar
  • Sugary Cereal - Need I say more?
  • Hot Dogs & Processed Meats - levels of sodium, saturated fat, and calories galore

There's more on the list of things that we shouldn't feed kids but maybe that's in a perfect world. With us on the run on a daily basis, sometimes these foods plus many more fill the void. A quick meal and off we go.

In essence, we're just saying that a little planning ahead of time could make for some healthier food and snack choices for not only the kids but also for ourselves. Bon App'etit!
