Two federal inmates are being treated for injuries after escaping from a Missouri jail, carjacking a vehicle and leading police on a chase before crashing.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the men were being housed at the Lincoln County Jail in Troy when they escaped Monday. Troy Detective Tony Stewart says they approached a 58-year-old man as he was backing out of his driveway and took his car.

GPS tracked the car and police began a pursuit on Interstate 70 in St. Charles County. The chase reached speeds of 100 mph before the car crashed into a median in St. Louis County and flipped onto its top.

Both suspects were taken to a hospital. Police have not released their names or why they were being held before the escape.
