A Bates City man was seriously injured last night in Benton County in a two-vehicle crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1994 Dodge Ram was stopped on Missouri 83, just north of Missouri 82 around 5:50 p.m. Sunday night.

The Dodge was towing a unit that was partially blocking the southbound lane of 83, when a southbound 2008 Pontiac G8, driven by 42-year-old Derek D. Tumbleson of Joplin, struck the towed unit, causing it to strike 65-year-old Brian D. Crowl of Quincy, who was standing outside his vehicle.

Crowl suffered serious injuries, and was flown by Cox Care Air to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar for treatment.

A 12-year-old male in the Pontiac suffered moderate injuries, and was transported by Warsaw-Lincoln Ambulance, also to Citizens Memorial.

The Dodge Ram had minor damage, while the Pontiac had extensive damage.
