2012 brought about the end of Hostess and the beloved Twinkie. I can remember many sporting events where the reward for a good game or what brought your spirits up afterwards was a Twinkie. Even my wife introduced me to the idea of cutting a Twinkie in half and putting strawberries over it to make a Strawberry Shortcake.  I admit, Twinkies were not my favorite dessert, but I have been craving them lately.

However, I believe I have found the replacement for the Twinkie, and it lies in Bing's in Sedalia.  It is called Mrs. Freshley's Dreamies Creme-Filled Cakes. I saw a display box for them and thought to give them a try.

So here it goes.....mmmmm tasty.

I think the Dreamies have a bit of a sweeter creme, and the cake is not nearly as light as the Twinkie. It has a very good quality to it and stands above the generic sponge cakes that I've had in the past. I really dig the sweetness!

I started asking people about what they are doing since the Twinkies went away and may be going through TDS (Twinkie Deficit Syndrome). “I usually had no more than about four Twinkies per year, so I haven't noticed the loss yet, “said Pete Gooch, “When the time comes, I'll probably just use one of the alternative brands.”

There have been many who have gone the generic route like Pete Gooch, “I found some generic Twinkies I am okay for now....” said Kami Guanella.

Some reactions were like me as they enjoyed making other foods with Twinkies, “I am thoroughly ticked because I love Twinkies, “ said Angie Lesmeister.  “I can't make Minion cupcakes anymore because Twinkies are the Minions. So now I'm settling for mint Oreos.”

A quick look at eBay shows that you can still buy the Twinkies from those that were able to get a hold of them before they were gone off the shelves, but at $15 a box, they're not really my cup of tea. I also know there was a Twinkie Bake Set, but I admit, I've never tried it.

Thanks Mrs. Freshley's for making the Dreamies,  I think I am hooked!  So off to Bing's I go where I hope to meet you in the dessert aisle!
