Boogie Down With Disco at the Fair Friday August 19
The night Chicago radio personality Steve Dahl detonated disco records at Comiskey Park between a White Sox doubleheader and proclaimed "that blowed up real good" spelled the end of a music genre, at least in July of 1979. But it didn't kill it. And I predict there will be lots of boogying in and around the State Fair Grandstand on Friday night, August 19.
Harry Wayne Casey, KC for short, will lead KC and the Sunshine Band through a fun night of R&B and funk fusion that generated monster hits like "That's the Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "Keep It Comin' Love", "Get Down Tonight", "Please Don't Go", and "Boogie Shoes".
Opening for KC and the Sunshine Band will be The Four Top. The Four Tops were one of the originators of the Motown sound of the '60s along with The Miracles, the Temptations, and The Supremes. While most probably know their hit "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)", or "Reach Out I'll Be There", the group has a slew of hits that encompass soul, R&B, disco, doo-wop, jazz, and adult contemporary music.
These days The Four Tops are led by original member Abdul "Duke" Fakir, along with Ronnie McNeir, Alexander Morris, and original member Lawrence Payton's son, Lawrence Payton, Jr.
The Four Tops and KC and the Sunshine Band will take the stage at 7:30 PM CDT.
Tickets for this, and all Missouri State Fair Grandstand shows go on sale at 9:00 AM CDT Tuesday, June 28 through Etix. And the State Fair box office will open at Noon for walk-up orders while tickets are available.
