Bothwell Regional Health Center is pleased to announce dates for its 2020 educational classes and support groups.

Bothwell offers a variety of classes including childbirth education, community CPR/AED/First Aid, safe sitter, and smoking cessation.

Childbirth education classes include Labor and Delivery, Taking Care of Your Newborn, and Breastfeeding or Thinking About It. Classes are free, but preregistration is required. Visit www.brhc.org/classes to register online or call (660) 827-9515.

●        Labor and Delivery weekday classes will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on March 3 and 5, April 6 and 8; June 1 and 3; July 7 and 9; Aug. 3 and 5, Oct. 5 and 7, and Nov. 10 and 12. Weekend classes will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 8, May 2 and Sept. 12. Classes meet in the Bothwell Education Center at 600 E. 14th St. in Sedalia. Topics include an overview of labor, delivery and postpartum and what to expect emotionally and medically.

●        Taking Care of Your Newborn classes will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 15, Feb. 5, March 11, May 13, June 17, July 15, Sept. 16, Oct. 7, and Nov. 4. Topics include bathing, what to expect during the first weeks at home, car seat safety, and infant CPR.

●        Breastfeeding or Thinking About It classes will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, March 3, April 28, May 19, June 30, Aug. 18, Sept. 22, and Dec. 1. Successful breastfeeding techniques will be discussed, and questions will be answered.

Community CPR/AED/First Aid one-day classes will meet on March 7, May 9, Sept. 12, and Nov.  7. CPR/AED/First Aid classes are from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the fee is $50. The CPR/AED class is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the fee is $35. First Aid only is from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the fee is $35. Safe sitter one-day classes will meet from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 22, April 11, June 5, June 20, July 11, Oct. 17, and Nov. 14. Course materials are designed for children in grades 6 through 8. Smoking cessation classes are for smokers who are ready to find the support and resources they need to “kick the habit.” The course follows the American Lung Association’s eight-session “Freedom from Smoking” program. In addition to educational classes, Bothwell offers alzheimer’s, Baby Café, diabetes, grief, High Hopes cancer, and stroke support groups that help people deal with various life issues.

Alzheimer’s Support Group provides a forum where participants can freely discuss the challenges of Alzheimer’s, share suggestions for improving quality of life, learn professional coping techniques, and form a continuing support system. The group will meet at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23, Feb. 27, March 26, April 23, May 28, June 25, July  23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 19, and Dec. 17 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1322 W. Baby Café is a free resource that gives pregnant and breastfeeding mothers an opportunity to meet with a lactation consultant, gain support from specifically-trained staff, and share experiences with other mothers. Meetings will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday starting Jan. 7 in the Women’s Health Center on the first floor of the hospital. No appointments are needed, and walk-ins are welcome. Diabetes Support Group provides support to individuals who have diabetes and their families in an environment where they can share their feelings and gain valuable tips from others. Meetings are at 11 a.m. on Jan. 30, March 26, May 28, July 30, Sept. 24, and Nov. 19. For more information contact the Diabetes Education Department at (660) 827-9334.

The Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program, based on the Grief Recovery Handbook, guides those who wish to move beyond their grief to a richer quality of life in an eight-week program. Groups meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Mondays in the Bothwell Education Center. Meeting dates are Jan. 13 to March 2; April 6 to May 25; July 13 to Aug. 31; and Sept. 21 to Nov. 9. A class may be joined during the first two weeks then it becomes a closed group. The High Hopes Cancer Center Support Group helps patients cope with their illness and live more effectively. Meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 17, April 21, May 19, June 16, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 17, and Dec. 15 in the Susan O'Brien Fischer Cancer Center on the ground floor of the Canon Center for Cancer and Cardiovascular Care.
