Cass County Wreck Claims Life of One Woman

A two-vehicle wreck in Cass County claimed the life of one woman Wednesday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the wreck at 1:00, on MO-58 at Route CC.

According to the online crash report, 1993 Mazda Protege failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck on the driver's side by a 2006 Dodge Ram. The Mazda then traveled off the road and struck a utility pole, partially ejecting the driver, identified as 52-year old Maria Bachtel, of Sugar Creek, MO.

Bachtel was pronounced deceased at the scene and taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner's office.

The driver of the Dodge, 77-year old James R. Willis, and a passenger, 76-year old Patsy A. Willis, both of Blue Springs, suffered minor injuries. James Willis reportedly refused treatment, while Patsy Willis was taken to Centerpoint Medical by EMS for treatment.
