The Best Supporting Actress category was a tough one to predict this year, with five wonderful nominees all delivering some of their most vibrant work to date. But tonight the Academy recognized Patricia Arquette, giving her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2015 Oscars for her moving performance in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood.

Although the Oscars infamously snubbed The LEGO Movie in the Best Animated Feature category, the joyous and hilarious movie got the last laugh at the ceremony itself. The film was nominated for its delightful song “Everything is Awesome!” and the live performance of the impossibly catchy number brought the house down and probably made everyone feel really bad about not giving the full movie its due.

It seemed inevitable, and there were some other great contenders, but J.K. Simmons has been awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards. Simmons took home the statue for his fantastic, unnerving role as Fletcher, the intimidating band instructor in Whiplash.

The Oscars may not carry the same amount of commercial clout as the Super Bowl, but it still offers advertisers an opportunity to appeal to a very specific audience. In this case, it’s Apple and legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese teaming up to sell the cinematic potential of the iPad. And yes, this commercial wants to tug on your heartstrings.

Last we heard, Warner Bros. hadn’t yet officially given the Wonder Woman solo film the green light, which wasn’t entirely surprising given that a script wasn’t firmly in place. But today brings good news on the Wonder Woman front: shooting will begin this fall for the hero’s upcoming solo adventure, with — as previously confirmed — Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad vet Michelle MacLaren in the director’s chair.

We all watch the Oscars for different reasons. Some watch for the sheer spectacle. Some watch to see if the movies they like actually win something. But in the end, it all comes down to all viewers doing the exact same thing: watching people thank other people for upwards of three hours. Every single film production hits snags and runs into problems. Some are just a little more public than others. Now, the troubles facing the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5 have become public and they certainly sound bad on paper: Production has been temporarily shut down while director Christopher McQuarrie rushes to fix what is apparently an “unsatisfactory” ending. That’s an ominous sign for a movie that recently had its release date pushed up from December to July.

Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder revealed photos of Batman, the Batmobile and Wonder Woman on his Twitter feed, but lately things have been pretty quiet. Many fans were hoping for a first official look at the Batman vs. Superman trailer in theaters with Jupiter Ascending, but that didn't happen. Rumors have it that the trailer itself is ready and just waiting for the right moment to premiere. Could that moment be almost upon us? Snyder returned to Twitter last night, tweeting the first photo of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, along with the new tagline #unitetheseven.

Marvel’s 2016 Guardians of the Galaxy animated series has conjured up a star-load of casting over the last few days, but it seems the Disney XD team has already made its way to Earth.
