Community Supports Hospital Through WMMC Foundation Fund-raiser
Western Missouri Medical Center’s (WMMC) Foundation held its fifth-annual fundraising event, "Fire & Ice: Glitz & Glam Gala" on Friday, Jan. 27.
Over $73,000 was raised at the sold-out event, with a net of over $58,000, which the WMMC Foundation will use to fund projects that support the Medical Center’s mission.
The gala featured classic casino games, live auction items, raffles, an open bar, and many unique prizes. The decadent food, always the talk of the event, was prepared and served by Morrison’s Healthcare catering team, led by Chef Samantha Lynn. Funds were raised through a live auction, raffle tickets, pledged donations, ticket sales, sponsorship, and more.
“I am incredibly honored to be a part of the WMMC Foundation and to help raise funds and awareness through our annual event, Fire & Ice,” said Brooke Cox, chair of the Special Events Committee. “It wouldn’t be possible without the amazing ladies that volunteer on the Special Events committee and the steadfast guidance of the WMMC Foundation. We look forward to bringing our community together to build an even stronger future for the WMMC Foundation and appreciate all the support we’ve received this year.”
During the program, Guy Albert, emcee, announced that a Diamond Level Pledge had been made to the Pillar Society for the first time in WMMC Foundation history. The donors, Andy Gelbach and Karen Gonzalez were honored with a standing ovation from the crowd.
Following the announcement of the inaugural donation, attendees watched a video highlighting the “Nurturing Nurses Scholarship Fund,” a scholarship for nurses wanting to pursue additional education and certifications, which is expanding to offer more opportunities to nurses. Attendees contributed $4,700 directly to the scholarship fund during the event.
“I would like to thank our Special Events and Business Relations Committees who worked tirelessly to create a unique and engaging event for our community,” said Jennie Snapp, Director of Communications & Development at WMMC.
“This event wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors, who underwrite our event year after year, and the volunteers who set up and staff the event. I would also like to thank Guy Albert, who rose to the challenge of emceeing the event, and the Communications & Development staff at WMMC for all their behind-the-scenes work," Snapp said.
