Convicted Killer Sent Back to Prison on Drug Conviction

A southwest Missouri man who was paroled after serving 23 years for a drug-related killing is headed back to prison for another 10 years after he was convicted of peddling methamphetamine.

The Joplin Globe reports that 61-year-old Stephen Hill was sentenced Monday in Jasper County to the maximum penalty for the drug charge.

Both Hill and his brother, James Hill, were convicted of second-degree murder in the 1992 killing of 22-year-old Tyrone Davis, of Springfield. The prosecution maintained at the brothers' separate trials that the slaying took place just hours after Davis threatened Stephen Hill about his failure to pay a drug debt.

Stephen Hill was granted parole in 2016 but got in trouble again in January 2017. That's when authorities searched his home and seized methamphetamine and digital scales.
