I realize with the onset of COVID-19, we've seen a slight decrease in the traffic patterns in Sedalia. But before the coronavirus hit, did you feel that traffic in the State Fair city was getting to be a problem?

Of course we always see an increase in volume during the lake season and during the Missouri State Fair. But beyond that, do you feel the increase in vehicles is making it more difficult to navigate through the main thoroughfares in Sedalia?

There are certain times of the year when citizens of Sedalia and Pettis County cringe. We know that traffic will increase and it will not be easy to make those usual treks around the city with our usual ease.

Once again there are two times that come to mind. Number one...during the period of late Spring to early Fall with vehicles pulling boat-loaded trailers filling the lanes every weekend going to and from Truman Lake and the Lake of the Ozarks.

The second period of time of heavy traffic in Sedalia is the Missouri State Fair. We love our fair but we don't like the heavy traffic.

Now, step back and take a look at the traffic that is going and coming from different directions through the Queen City. Outside of the pandemic it seems that more and more vehicles are causing backups at various intersections not only during the peak hours, aka rush hour, but also during those off-peak hours.

The influx of traffic is a boon to businesses and the Sedalia/Pettis County economy. More people are stopping for gas, food, and shopping so it definitely is enabling the city to see new businesses and more jobs.

But I still ask, are we on the verge of a traffic problem in Sedalia?
