Elected Pettis County Officials Sworn In At Courthouse
Pettis County Election Authority Nick La Strada swore in several county officials Monday afternoon in the third floor courtroom of the Pettis County Courthouse in downtown Sedalia.
In attendance were friends and relatives of elected officials, such as that of Sheriff-Elect Brad Anders.
“It's a great feeling,” Anders remarked after the brief ceremony.
“It's overwhelming,” Anders said when asked about his feelings about the process of becoming sheriff of Pettis County. “The responsibility, the honor of being elected to this position is just overwhelming.”
Anders admitted it's time to go to work. “There's a lot of things to do, and we're going to hit it from day one,” he said.
Dr. Anders officially takes office at midnight Jan. 1. He replaces longtime Sheriff Kevin Bond, who served 34 years, after defeating him in the November 3 general election.
Also sworn in were Public Administrator Charli Ackerman, Pettis County Coroner Skip Smith, Pettis County Eastern Commissioner Israel Baeza, Pettis County Presiding Commissioner David Dick, (Pettis County Western Commissioner Jim Marcum was sworn in earlier in the day due to a scheduling conflict), Pettis County Auditor Beverly Dillon, and Pettis County Treasurer Kim Lyne.
Pettis County Assessor Chris Woolery will be sworn in at a later date, La Strada said.
Many office holders posed for photos with family members following the 10-minute ceremony.
