Outdoor Kids, LLC, is holding its first crappie fishing tournament for teens to win scholarships for college or trade schools.

The event, sponsored by Crappie USA, Frontier Metal and Mid-State Steel, will be held April 13 at Lake of the Ozarks.

There is no entry fee to compete, but the tournament is limited to the first 100 teams to sign up. Anglers must hold an American Crappie Association membership. Students must be a resident of Missouri. And teams must have a boater who is 21 or older.

Sponsors will supply scholarship money. First place will be $4,400, second place will earn $3,000, third will receive $1,500 and fourth place earns $1,000.

A scholarship “big fish prize” of $1,200 is being offered by Robert Taylor Insurance.

Registration and voucher pickup will take place at 5 p.m. and a seminar meeting will start at 6 p.m. April 12 at The Stable, 23 Spring Cove Road in Sunrise Beach.

A mandatory cooler and live-well check will take place at Capt. Ron's from 5 to 7:30 a.m. on the day of the tournament. Anglers will be allowed to fish from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Weigh-in will take place at Capt. Ron's. Anglers must be in line by 3 p.m.

Waters are off limits for pre-fishing from dawn April 8 to dusk on April 11. Anglers may pre-fish April 12, but must be off the water by 4 p.m.
