The Master Naturalist volunteer training for the Hi-Lonesome Chapter of Pettis & Benton Counties will begin September 6.

The Missouri Master Naturalist Program is described as mixing science with service, engaging Missourians in the stewardship of the state's natural resources through science-based education and volunteer community service. The program is a partnership between the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri University Extension.

To get involved, participants must be at least 18 years old and attend an orientation class.

Registration for the training course must be completed by August 2, for a fee of $75.00.

Training classes will take place Thursday evenings at the MDC Discovery Room on the MO State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, from September 6 - November 15. The training classes will be held from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. In addition, there will be 3 Saturday field trips that participants must attend.

Upon completion of the training course, participants will be required to contribute 40 hours of volunteer service and complete 8 hours of advanced training to become a certified Missouri Master Naturalist. Participants also need to be active members of the Hi-Lonesome Master Naturalist Chapter.
