Expect Delays on Highway 50 Between Knob Noster and Lone Jack More or Less

The other day I wrote about some roadwork on Highway 50 in the Lee's Summit area that will mess things up right around Chipman Road. Well, there's more roadwork getting underway on Highway 50 much closer to Knob Noster that could make things frustrating for those commuting between Sedalia and Warrensburg.

According to a traffic alert sent to Townsquare Sedalia/Warrensburg from the Missouri Department of Transportation, MoDOT "will close various east and westbound lanes on Route 50 between Highway 13 and County Road 1501 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The closures will run through Aug. 16."

That's more or less between Knob Noster and Lone Jack. It's not that entire stretch, but it's the closest two towns I think most of us that travel on Highway 50 can picture without looking at a map.

MoDOT says the closures are happening because of a road work project along Route 50 that includes pavement repair, resurfacing, and guardrail replacement.

As a daily commuter between Warrensburg and Sedalia, I have been dreading the prospect of road construction on Highway 50. Don't get me wrong it's encouraging the state wants to keep up with roadway infrastructure. Yet, I am dreading the potential delays squeezing every traveler into one lane can bring. Especially on Fridays when everyone's making their way to the lake.

A minor traffic crash can mess traffic up on 50 and lengthen the commute. I'd imagine merging everyone into one lane will be somewhat similar. There's not a lot of good news for commuters going to work a nine to five job either. Lane closures will start at 6:00 AM and end at 7:00 PM CST. This means, earlier than a lot of us go to work and ending after a lot of us have finished dinner and are enjoying evening television.

It might be time for me to find a backroad way to avoid the construction between Knob and Warrensburg. Got any suggestions?
