FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — City leaders in Ferguson, Missouri are pledging their full cooperation with a federal civil-rights investigation into their police department following the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. The unarmed black man was shot and killed August 9th by a white officer, Darren Wilson. County Police Chief Jon Belmar says he initiated the "collaborative reform" and "welcomes the scrutiny."

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Governor Jay Nixon says he didn't initially take control of security in Ferguson because the police shooting of Michael Brown seemed to him like something local authorities should handle. Copies of Nixon's daily schedules show he went about routine business for the first several days after the August 9th shooting. The governor began devoting his full schedule to Ferguson five days after the shooting.
