Warrensburg City Council Authorizes Fire Station 1 Remodeling Budget

On Tuesday, June 8, Warrensburg’s City Council met to discuss various happenings in the town.
The meeting began with a recognition of Juneteenth Day, followed by a recognition of LGBTQIA+ Pride month presented by Warrensburg Mayor Bruce Uhler.
During the meeting, the council heard from Fire Chief Kenneth D. Jennings asking for a resolution to reauthorize funding to complete a minor remodel of the sleeping quarters at Fire Station 1. Jennings explained the need for the funding.
“The bunk room has long been an open bunk room concept. In 2008 when station 1 was remodeled, the bunk room remained open as more of a multi-purpose room. The beds fold up in the walls. The space could be used as a training room or anything like that,” Jennings said, “Still a good idea but it doesn’t quite meet the needs of our current arrangements today.”
Jennings went on to explain with cost savings in 2024, funding for the project was encumbered into the 2025 fiscal year, but due to a large amount of other changes occurring and other projects the remodel was not completed and the cost was missed in the 2026 budget.
“The initial estimates when we started this were around $28,000. After getting up to date estimates on the project it came in at $22,088.63 would be the max that we spend,” Jennings said.
This notion was unanimously approved by the council. The new set up of the station will resemble that of Station House 2.
Another topic discussed at the meeting was the opening of the Warrensburg Pool on Saturday, June 6. This after many successful repairs were made Friday.
The Council also heard from Warrensburg’s Police Department. The department has been delivered seven vehicles. The Council was also informed about ongoing dialogue between the Warrensburg Police Department with Kansas City ICE agents regarding contact if agents will be working in the Warrensburg area.
The Public Works Department also spoke about construction projects happening throughout the town. Projects have been slowed recently because of the weather.
The final department of the evening was the Warrensburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. The department is hosting a soccer watch party Friday, June 12 and explained the activity packages prepared for visitors traveling to Warrensburg during the FIFA World Cup.
After hearing from department leaders, the meeting adjourned at 7:37 pm.
