Ben Affleck is the most hated man in America, and we're not referring to Batfleck backlash. The latest 'Gone Girl' trailer previews director David Fincher's adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name, in which Affleck's Nick Dunne becomes the primary suspect in his wife's disappearance and presumed murder.

The novel itself is structured as a back-and-forth between Nick's point of view, beginning on the morning of his wife's disappearance, and Amy's diary entries, and this new 'Gone Girl' trailer provides hope that the film will be a faithful and desired adaptation. After all, you can't go wrong with Fincher.

While Affleck stars as Dunne, a writer who realizes his marital bliss is a thing of the past, Rosamund Pike portrays his wife, Amy. When she mysteriously vanishes from their home, with signs of a struggle left behind, Nick becomes the face of the search campaign but ends up becoming the primary suspect. Did he, in fact, kill his own wife?

Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry have supporting roles in the film, which looks to bring all the intrigue and mind games that readers have loved from this crime story. But there will be more surprises to come, as Fincher has said that the film's ending differs from the book.

'Gone Girl' opens in theaters October 3.
