Early on the morning of May 30, Sedalia Police observed a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on West Broadway.

The vehicle also was not displaying proper registration and had equipment violations. A traffic stop was attempted at Broadway and Thompson Blvd, but the driver accelerated and a pursuit began.

The driver eventually stopped near Highway 50 and Buckley Road and fled on foot.

A Pettis County K9 was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody.

A computer check showed that 38-year-old McKenzie Douglas Welch was driving while revoked. Welch also faces charges of speeding 26 miles per hour over the limit, resisting arrest and aggravated fleeing.

Welch was taken to the Pettis County Jail on a 24-hour hold. His total bond amount was set at $25,100, which includes a 1st degree trespassing charge from an earlier incident.

He now has a court date of June 9.
