The American Red Cross is hosting a nationwide effort that offers businesses and community entities the opportunity to provide holiday cards to Armed Services members who are wounded, ill or injured.

The Holiday Mail for Heroes program attempts to provide Armed Service members staying at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital or Veterans being served by the VA blank holiday cards with a stamp on the envelope to send to their loved ones during the holidays.

The American Red Cross says the program has been updated in direct response from military members staying at Walter Reed and Fort Belvoir hospitals, who are unable to send cards to their loved ones across the country. Each service member will receive one bundle of 3 cards to send to their loved ones.

The American Red Cross says participating organizations have the opportunity to include a printed insert for each bundle with a personalized message. The Red Cross asks that all three cards in a bundle be for the same holiday, such as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and Mother's Day.

Items to include in each bundle

3 blank holiday cards (no glitter)

3 blank envelopes with postage stamps

1 personalized message to the service member - please leave individual cards blank

Bundled with a ribbon

Participating organizations can send completed bundles to:
