Independence Officer Shoots, Kills Man After Chase

Independence police say a police officer fatally shot a man after a chase.

Police say in a news release that the chase started in Independence late Thursday and eventually went into Kansas City, where the car was stopped with stop sticks.

The man ran from the car and a police officer followed.

Police say the suspect turned toward the officer with a gun in his hand, prompting the Independence police officer to shoot him. The suspect was dead at the scene.

No officers were injured. An investigation continues.
