An intense fire heavily damaged Arnold's Body Shop, 107 South Prospect, on Monday evening.

According to Sedalia Fire Chief Greg Harrell, a call was received at 7:28 p.m. Heavy fire and smoke was coming from all four sides of the metal building, he noted. Firefighters immediately went into defensive mode right away, Harrell added.

The owner, who was working in the driveway of the business, said he heard a popping noise and the fire spread quickly, with intense heat. Four vehicles inside the garage, as well as four or five outside the body shop, were destroyed.

Harrell said he was confident the fire was a high-dollar loss for the auto body shop. There were no injuries reported.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal was called and later responded to the scene.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 11:21 p.m.
