Illinois Drivers & Travelers Face New Taxes Starting July 1
A few new laws will take effect in Illinois on July 1st as the new fiscal year begins for the state, and it all means one thing: higher taxes.
Illinois Gas Tax to Increase
Starting July 1st, Illinois' gas tax will increase to $0.483 per gallon. According to state officials, this money will help maintain and improve roads and bridges to keep them safe for Illinois drivers. The diesel tax will also increase to $0.558 per gallon.

Even though the gas tax will increase for all of us who fill up in Illinois, there is also another tax coming our way that will impact Airbnb's and VRBOs.
Airbnb & VRBO Tax
With the start of the new fiscal year in Illinois, there will also be changes to how and what we pay when staying at an Airbnb or VRBO in the state. According to NBC Chicago, renters of Airbnbs and VRBOs will now have to pay a Hotel Operators’ Occupation Tax.

Basically, this means you will be charged the same tax for an Airbnb or VRBO stay as you would for a hotel stay, adding 6% to your final bill. Each city also has its hotel tax laws. For Quincy, according to Airbnb, renters will pay an additional 8% tax on their stay.
All of these changes will go into effect on July 1st. The good news for us here in Quincy is that we can just cross the beautiful Bayview Bridge to get gas in Missouri. It might be a bit of a drive and slightly out of the way, but it could be totally worth it.
