
World Cup Giants Choose Missouri as Home Base
The World Cup kicks off this June in North America and several teams have decided to set up shop in Missouri even though they may not be playing games there.

16 North American cities will host games for the soccer spectacle. Kansas City is hosting six matches in this year’s World Cup. Defending champions Argentina, along with Ecuador, Curacao, Algeria, Tunisia, The Netherlands, and Austria, will be playing matches at Arrowhead Stadium in group play this summer. Among those teams, Argentina, the Netherlands, and England are setting up their World Cup camps in the Kansas City area for the run of the tournament.

England is set to train at Swope Soccer Village near the Kansas City Zoo in Swope Park for their World Cup campaign.

Algeria has decided to use Rock Chalk Park in nearby Lawrence, KS as their World Cup training home base. Which makes sense as they play at least two matches at Arrowhead. Will other nations choose a centralized base of activity and set up shop in Missouri? Kansas City provides a place that is in the geographical middle of World Cup game sites, making it a likely choice for national teams. Final decisions for other countries teams will be made soon.
