It's been a long run, but a popular Silver Dollar City rollercoaster will be retired due to mining operations that will be happening underneath the park.

Why Is Thunderation Closing?

Silver Dollar City broke the news on their social media platforms today that Thunderation, the roller coaster that's been going strong for 33 years, will be retiring at the end of the season.

When Is Thunderation’s Final Day?

Ozarkly says that the Marvel Mining Company will be resuming operations, which means the last day that Thunderation will be active is January 2, 2027.

“Thunderation has had its run. But this mountain was never meant to be borrowed forever. There are still undiscovered sections of that mine, and I intend to see what it holds. The work underground matters more than any cheer from above." - Jedediah Campbell | Foreman, Marvel Cave Mining Co.

Thunderation was famous for the part of the ride where you'd enter the covered mining area and then stop in the darkness. Once the ride resumed a few moments later, your eyes were blinded by the sun as the track pointed up into the sky.
