I vote yes for this, but unfortunately I am not in the Illinois House of Representatives. The good news is that all of those folks just voted unanimously to bring back the sweet retro Illinois license plates many of us remember and miss.

I first saw this talked about on the Illinois sub-Reddit. It was a share by Brenden Moore on X about Illinois House Bill 3391. If you miss the Illinois license plates from 40 years ago, you will be pleased.

That's right. The same plates you could get on your vehicle back in 1984 like this one on Ebay can now be a part of your 2025 ride maybe.

I looked up Illinois House Bill 3391 on the state of Illinois website and it reads like this:

"Amends the Illinois Vehicle Codes. Allows the Secretary of State to issue a special registration plate designated as a retro license plate. Provides that the design and color of the plates shall be a replica of the license plates issued between 1983 and 2001. Provides that there shall be an addition $40 fee for original issuance of a retro license plate and a $27 fee for renewal of a retro license plate."

It appears this bill is reaching the finish line which means your Illinois wheels will soon have the option to rock it old school. Bring it on.
