Marion County, Missouri Law Enforcement Warns of Rising Scams
You need to know that the villains are constantly trying to come up with new ways to rip you off. There's a new warning from the Marion County, Missouri Sheriff's Office that they're receiving a surge of reports of perpetrators contacting residents pretending to be them and they've given advice on what you should do if it happens to you.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office just shared this new warning on their Facebook page this week about reports of imposters pretending to be them.

"The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has taken multiple calls today from citizens reporting phone calls from individuals claiming to be Deputies or Investigators with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
In these calls, the scammer is:
• Trying to obtain personal information about another person, or
• Claiming the caller has a warrant for their arrest and must pay money immediately to avoid jail.
This is 100% a scam.
Reminder: Law enforcement will never call you to demand money, request gift cards, wire transfers, or threaten arrest over the phone.
If you receive a call like this:
• Do not provide any information
• Do not send money
• Hang up and report it to your local law enforcement agency
These scam calls appear to be picking up again, so please stay alert and help spread the word to friends and family—especially those who may be more vulnerable.
Stay safe."
If you ever have anyone portraying a law enforcement or any other kind of public official requesting gift cards, that's 100% a scam. No law-abiding organization will ever request gift cards or wire transfers for a service or an alleged penalty. As the sheriff's office said, hang up and immediately call the real police through a known trusted phone number and let them know what happened. Your report might help another innocent person avoid getting ripped off in the future.
