Here are two words you don't hear spoken together often: Missouri and kangaroos. This is one of those exceptions where Missouri police were called into action when a kangaroo went rogue and adventured places that kangaroos are not supposed to go.

The Marshall Missouri Police Department shared this interesting update this week about a unique capture they successfully completed

In case you can't read their update on your device, I'll gladly summarize for you. On October 3, there was a petting zoo at the Saline County Fairgrounds which featured a kangaroo. One of the kids left the place where the kangaroo was and didn't close the gate. The kangaroo decided "FREEDOM!" and bolted the enclosure escaping from the Saline County Fairgrounds. A good Samaritan nearby saw the kangaroo the next day and contacted the police. Another good Samaritan who had experience with exotic animals said "I'll help" and together they safely captured the kangaroo and all's well that ends well.

The Marshall Missouri Police went on to say that the kangaroo belonged to owners who live in Warrensburg and he's safely been returned to them.

Is it legal to have a kangaroo as a pet in Missouri?

While Missouri doesn't allow dangerous exotic pets like big cats, wolves, bears, and non-human primates, it does not list kangaroos under that prohibited or strictly regulated category. There might be local regulations or rules set forth by HOA's that might make it prohibited in some parts of Missouri, though. Your kangaroo mileage may vary.
