If you work for a Missouri school transportation company, this is about the worst start to a week you could imagine as a contract loss will now mean more than 200 will be looking for work at the end of next month.

I was alerted this morning by the state of Missouri Jobs site that another WARN notice has been submitted. It comes from a Missouri school transportation company that has notified the state of an imminent mass layoff. It says that First Student Transportation company will be dismissing 218 workers on June 30.

What is the reason for this mass layoff in the St. Louis area?

KSDK is reporting that it's the loss of a contract that has caused First Student Transportation Company to let so many workers go. They also say that a new $30 million dollar contract with a California-based company will replace them.

This newest mass layoff event now brings the statewide total workers dismissed for 2025 to 2,928 according to the Missouri Jobs site.
