FBI: 2 in Missouri Get Prison for Cartel Money Laundering
An elaborate scheme to launder huge amounts of money for a drug cartel in Missouri has resulted in two men being sentenced to prison according to the FBI in St. Louis.
The FBI in St. Louis shared this update this week on their Facebook page about two men who laundered nearly $1 million dollars for a drug cartel.
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri shared more details on the case. Their press release says Carl Von Garrett, 55, of St. Charles, Missouri, was sentenced to 135 months in prison and Tobiyyah Israel, 39, of Ohio, to 36 months in prison for their role in a money laundering case for a drug cartel. It says evidence presented at trial involved "nearly $1 million in seven transactions in the spring of 2021 for the Sinaloa cartel".
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, the FBI, the St. Louis County Police, the Bridgeton Police Department, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and the St. Charles County Police Department. This was part of an operation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force that "identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States".
