Video Shows Enormous Fireball Explode Over Missouri Thursday

If you were looking up at the sky for some reason late Thursday night in Missouri, you got quite a surprise. An enormous fireball suddenly zoomed across the sky and exploded on the horizon and a backyard camera captured it as it happened.

Dan Bush of Missouri Skies just shared this meteoric moment on YouTube today that he captured in Albany, Missouri. According to his description, this fireball appeared at 11:53pm Thursday night, September 14, 2023. It first appears on video as just a tiny streak.

Moments later, the horizon was ablaze with its explosion. It quite literally turned night into day for a brief second.

The American Meteor Society website shows this fireball was so bright, it was seen in at least 7 states Thursday night from Missouri to Minnesota.

So far in 2023, this is one of the brightest and most widely-reported meteors of the year and it was at its brightest over Missouri.
