Get Ready For A Fun 5K With A Meaningful Mission

Just in case you haven’t brushed up on your "Local Heroes 101" lately, let me give you the quick and sparkly rundown on why this event is such a gem. The group behind it is Citizens Against Spousal Abuse.  Yes, the name is serious, because the mission is seriously awesome.

They work to empower survivors of domestic and sexual violence by helping them reclaim their lives through education, advocacy, and good old-fashioned community teamwork. They’re out there lifting up not just women and children, but also the families and friends who form their support systems. Basically, if kindness were a superpower, these folks would be wearing capes.

So yeah - amazing cause. And this time around, they’re putting the "fun" in "fundraiser" (and also in “color fun run,” which is somehow even better). This is a redo - or a reschedule if you will. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and they were GOING to do then, but they got rained out. So to make up the occasion, they’re hosting an event on June 21st. And no, this is not an opportunity to reuse an April Fools' prank. Unless the prank is how good you're gonna look covered in neon powder.

Here’s the scoop: Check-in starts bright and early at 8:00 a.m. at the Missouri State Fairgrounds, specifically the Mathewson Exhibition Center parking lot. Look for the crowd of people who are way too chipper for that hour of the morning. The actual run begins at 9:00 a.m. sharp — no snoozing! It’s just $30 to sign up on the day of, and rumor has it there’ll be cash prizes, so yes, you could get paid to look like a walking rainbow.

It’s a 5K, and you can walk, run, skip, dance, or interpretive cartwheel your way through it. Since it’s a color run, participants will get showered with food-grade, totally-safe colored powder at stations along the course—like a human canvas in motion. Usually, there’s one color station per mile, so you can expect about five color explosions total. (Or more! It’s like a Jackson Pollock painting out there—you never really know.)

One thing’s for sure: it’ll be bright, it’ll be bold, and it’ll be a beautiful way to support a cause that matters. See you there—powdered and proud!

Remember - Entry fee is $30 each, $15 for kids ages 8-13, and free for ages 2-7. Cost is $40 for a “virtual run.” And they have the full details online.
