
Illinois Veterans’ Homes Face Surge in COVID-19 Cases
The Illinois Veterans' Homes in LaSalle, Manteno, and Quincy are dealing with a notable rise in COVID-19 cases among veterans and staff members.
Mild Symptoms Reported by Veterans Home Staff
According to a press release from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, there have been a total of 36 individuals who have tested positive for the virus across these facilities, as of August 27, 2024.
In LaSalle, the outbreak includes three residents and nine staff members. Manteno has reported two resident cases and one staff case.
The Quincy home has been hit hardest, with nine residents and twelve staff members testing positive. Despite the uptick in cases, the majority have shown only mild symptoms.
Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) Director Terry emphasized that the state’s five Veterans' Homes have been vigilant in monitoring for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

All affected homes are adhering to CDC and IDPH infection control guidelines, which include enhanced cleaning protocols, social distancing, and masking in direct care areas.
Residents are encouraged to remain in their rooms to minimize movement and reduce the risk of further spread.
