It's Fire Prevention Week and if you live in Johnson County and need a smoke alarm, or need a new smoke alarm, Johnson County Emergency Management can help. Johnson County Emergency Management will give you one and install it for free.

Home fires kill more than seven people each day, and one way to increase your family's chance of surviving a home fire is to have working smoke detectors. Additionally the Red Cross says 900 people could be saved in home fire deaths every year if every American home had a working smoke detector.

Johnson County Emergency Management has teamed with the American Red Cross and other community partners to provide installation of free smoke alarms for Johnson County residents. Alarms will be installed by local professionals at no cost.

If your home does not have a smoke alarm, sign up to get one. If your smoke alarm is over ten years old, sign up to get one. You can check and see if your smoke alarm was manufactured more than years ago by looking on the back of the alarm. Additionally make sure you test your smoke alarms monthly and replace the battery when necessary.

If you wish to take advantage of this free program click here for the form to sign up for your free smoke alarm and smoke alarm installation. If you need more information you can contact Johnson County Emergency Management at (660) 747-2666.
