Johnson County Mask Order is Back

I was speaking with a friend who works at a convenience store in Warrensburg yesterday morning who offered the observation that it seems more people who come into her store are wearing masks than when it was required. An interesting observation, that's about to get even more interesting now that Johnson County is bringing back their face covering order effective Monday, October 12.

COVID-19 cases are continuing to increase in Johnson County, and because of that the Johnson County Public Health Officer and the Johnson County Community Health Services Board of Trustees have reissued the face covering mandate effective 12:01 AM CDT on Monday, October 12.

The order requires individuals to wear a face covering in any indoor public location including but not limited to retail stores, grocery stores, offices, places of worship and restaurants/bars.

 

In addition, face coverings are required in outdoor public gathering places when social distancing is not an option.

 

In September 2020, Johnson County experienced a 116 percent increase of confirmed cases over a 30-day time frame.

Johnson County Community Health Services urges endorsement and enforcement of the mask ordinance from key leaders including Johnson County elected officials, municipalities and law enforcement agencies in a unified approach to squash the coronavirus throughout the county.

The Johnson County mandate will stay in effect until further notice.

Now that face coverings are a requirement, it will be interesting to see if my friend starts getting static from people not wearing a mask again. Or, perhaps, recent events have shown us that masks do work.
