Kelce Wins Walter Payton Man of the Year Fan Challenge
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce won the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Fan Challenge. Which means he now has $25,000 to put towards the charity of his choice. This according to an announcement from the NFL on Twitter.
According to Fox 4 Kansas City each NFL team nominates a player whose made a significant positive impact on his community. Kelce has provided time and financial support to Operation Breakthrough which gives opportunities to disadvantaged youth.
Additionally this past fall he announced a STEM lab initiative and his foundation all puts on the Walk the Walk fashion show which raises money for Operation Breakthrough.
According to Fox 4, Kelce says his foundation's vision is to give teens in undeserved neighborhoods a safe place. A place where they're exposed to interests and role models beyond sports. Kelce also believes your neighborhood, our skin color, or the situation where you were born into shouldn't have an impact on the dreams you can dream.
Kelce is the latest Kansas City sports figure to be recognized for having an off field impact in the community. Ian Kennedy was nominated for Major League Baseball's Roberto Clemente Award this past September. And Royals Senior Vice President and General Manager Dayton Moore will be enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame for both his accomplishments with the Royals and his impact in the Kansas City community.
