The Lady Gremlins took second place on Saturday at the Eugene Pink Out Volleyball Tournament.

They went undefeated in pool play beating Eugene and Belle, taking them to the Championship game against Centralia where they battled hard but fell short 23-25, 21-25.

First game of pool play Sophia Carney went 13 for 13 from the serving line, with 2 aces and 10 points for her team, Ellie Coruna was 9 for 9 with 1 ace and 6points. Sammy Altena led the game with 9 kills, right behind her were Juniors Sophia Carney with 7 and Avery Epple with 5. Carney and Emilee Jackson each had two blocks, Sammy Alentena would lead with 14 digs and Epple with 12 assists.

In the second game, Sophia Carney again led the team going 14 for 14 from the serving line with 4 aces and 11 points. Epple was right behind Carney going 10 for 10, with 5 aces, and 8 points. Sammy Altena, leader of kills, led the team once again with 12 followed by Carney with 6, Epple 4, and Hesse 3. Avery Epple had 19 assists in the game, and Seniors Ellie Coruna and Emily Hesse each had 7 digs.

At the Championship game, Setters Sammy Altena and Avery Epple both had perfect games from the serving line, going 15 for 15, Altena with 4 aces. It was a great game of defense, with lots of digs from the whole team and some really great saves and plays by Epple and Hesse. Emily Hesse led with 9 digs and Epple had 8, the team combined for 41 digs total in the championship game taking away a lot of great hits from Centralia. Sophomores Bailee Vogel and Emilee Jackson both had 2 blocks along with Junior Sophia Carney. Avery Epple had 11 assists, and Co-Setter Sammy Altena had 9.

The Lady Gremlins will play Russellville at the Class 2, District 7 game on Wednesday in Versailles at 4 p.m.
