I for one am glad Denver won the Super Bowl. It has been bothering me from a sibling rivalry perspective. It is not that I like Peyton Manning, but the position he found himself in at Sunday dinners with his family gave me pause.

His brother had two Super Bowl rings, and until Sunday he only had one. As someone lacking in sports skills, I have taken a fair amount of humiliating barbs for not being as good as some of my friends, and gave me a different perspective on who should win the Super Bowl. I imagined Payton sitting across the table from Eli, and Eli wearing both his rings trying to catch the light from the chandelier to shine them in Peyton’s eyes. The thought reminded me of when I lost my favorite Cats-Eye Marble to one of my friends in a game of chase marbles. He would pull it out of his pocket to show me how it shined at every opportunity, but would never give me the chance to win it back.

The feeling I had then is what I feel Peyton would have felt at all those Sunday dinners to come. Besides it may be easier to beat the Broncos without him behind the center.
